November 21st, 2011 was a chilly day, but inside the Walnut Room at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, things were warm, cozy, and very Scottish.

Guests were invited by hosts Lee Clark and Jerry Pikolysky (both dressed in appropriate plaid) to enjoy the finest of Scotch, by a warm crackling fireplace.

But that wasn't all.

If you know Lee, you know there had to be perfect bites and bubbles. Veuve Clicquot for the bubbles of course.

Among those there enjoying the evening were Royce and John Campbell, Lorna and Chris McKellar, Rusti Bartell and Steven Rosenberg, Karen and Norman Davis, Margo Schwab and Scott Johnston, Valerie (Versace Val) and Harry Cooper, and Jackie and Paul Teirstein.

Paul Teirstein is the Director of Interventional Cardiology at Scripps.

More there included Gail and Ralph Bryan, Melissa and Michael Bartell, Anne and Joe Ullola, Melissa Williams and Bob Stefanko, Sheila and Jeff Lipinsky, Ross Clark, Arta Motadel, Jessica Cline, chi chi florist Kathryn Gayner, Catherine Eix, and Mary and Bob Porter.

Col (ret.) Bob Porter wore his kilt of course, and his Scottish wife Mary proved very knowledgeable about the Glenmorangie spirits.

Expert too was the spokesman from Glenmorangie, Doug DeBeech. who is a nationally recognized mixologist who has worked for Moet Hennessy USA for over 8 years.

The 5 Glenmorangie scotches that were perfectly paired with different tapas are as follows:

1. Glenmorangie Original. Halved figs stuffed with blue cheese and top with a candied pecan.
2. Glenmorangie Lasanta. Lobster Medallion, Sweet Potato and Fennel Pollen.
3. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Almond crusted diver scallop, red quinoa salad and a light ancho aioli.
4. Glenmorangie Nectar D'or. Smoked Duck Sate with plum BBQ sauce.
5. Glenmorangie 18 year old. Bite size Beef Wellington.

The tapas by the way were specially created by Chef Bernard Guillas in conjunction with the talents of Chef Brian Freersken.

Additional buffet temptations included:

Chicken & Apple Sausage
Truffle Fingerlings
Grilled Asparagus Spears
Lollilop Lamb Chops
Fennel Pollen Crusted Salmon Medallions

Delightful party, wonderful hosts and ebullient guests. All toasted the beginnings of a wonderful holiday season.
