Child Abuse Prevention Foundation's Annual Chef's & Champions for Kids - 'Helping Kids Take Flight'

“I was truly amazed with the beauty of the evening.  The committee really had vision and pulled all the elements together so nicely, fantastic food, wonderful music and a great array of guests who seemed to really enjoy themselves. I am heartened by the turn out and the generosity of so many. Continuing to give in tough times is so important, especially when it comes to children who need our help and protection."

- Nancy Manning, Event Chairperson

And guests did come out in big support for the 5th Annual Chefs & Champions for Kids benefit at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park. The October 18th, 2008 event brought out quite the who's who in support of the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.

Those supporting the cause included Honorary Co-Chairs Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mayor Jerry Sanders and Rana Sampson, the Honorable Bonnie Dumanis, Ronne Froman, Adrienne Wells Casaneda, Rebecca and Craig Irving, Jeannie and Arthur Rivkin, Linda and Michael Rivkin, Event Chair Nancy Manning and her husband Michael Manning, Gail Donahue, Larry Donofrio, Wendy Hamilton, Peggy Matthews, Edith Zamora, and Teri Bertorelli.

{

More fun sorts there included jewelry designer Loraine Levy and her husband Issac Levy, Jane Mitchell, CAPFSD Chairman of the Board Ken Van Damme II, CAPFSD Vice Chair Derek C. Thomas, CAPFSD Treasurer Tim Ludwig, CAPFSD Secretary Yvonne Campbell, Jack Charney, Larry Donofrio, Lois Fong-Sakai, Jason Howerton, Victor & Patty Ippolito, Noelle Ludwig, Ian Mausner, Stan Panikowski, Kendra Thomas, CAPFSD COO Debbie Case, and CAPFSD CEO/President Susan Golding.

That's the Susan Golding, our former Mayor who is now focused on championing causes for kids.

Amidst a history of aerospace, guests mingled and enjoyed sampling some of San Diego's finest restaurants' offerings. The Marine Room's Chef Bernard Guillas enticed guests with Maine Lobster Bisque Shooters with fennel pollen dust and Yuzu Foam. He was quite popular.

And so were a plethora of other 'wow' factor chefs. Chef Martin Gonzales of Acqua al 2 served up fussili corti cocktails with filletini, the Monsoon Group's Chef Ashley Potat was quite popular with Chicken Tikka Masala, spinach curry and veggie samosas, Dining Details Chef Julie Frans drew raves with her ginger flourless chocolate cakes and others dessert delectable's, and Yokuz Sushi Bar & Island Grill's Chef Roberto Alvarado was a hit with a variety of fresh, fresh sushi.

Other restaurants pitching in for child abuse prevention included Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino's Chef Dean Thomas. He served smoked beef with Connelly Gardens Micro Greens infused with a Gouda Cabernet reduction. Zocalo's Chef Steven Floyd brought in a Southern favorite of blue corn crusted crab cakes with a drizzle of papaya salsa and lime cream. Food Management Associate's Chef Isa Olloni offered Mozzarella Caprese and Sicilian penne.

It was a truly fun 'dining by the bite' experience.

And there were more restaurants. Il Forniao of Coronado's Chef Marco Nocco, Rancho La Puerta's Chef Jesus Gonzalez, Trattoria Acqua's Chef Damaso Lee, and Whisknladle's Chef Ryan Johnson.

VIP Guests enjoyed a private viewing of the Star Trek Exhibit's sets, costumes and gadgets earlier. Later on all guests enjoyed a rousing auction led by Jack Berkman. Among the live auction prizes, Chairperson Nancy Manning and her husband Michael will host a Chef Martin Gonzales dinner for 8 guests at their Coronado home. Other auction items swooped up were VIP grandstand seats for the NYC/ Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a trip and tour to NASA, an autographed guitar by all four band members of The Rolling Stones, and so much more.

The New Moon Flyers entertained everyone with their Sinatra-esque tunes.

The mood was upbeat as big dollars were raised to help The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation in their 27 plus year endeavor to raise awareness and hope for abused, neglected children and youth.

Please enjoy the photos!

Charitable Gifts Make Tremendous Gifts

Beautiful animals in shelters need support and better yet adoption. No donation is too big or too small. You can always designate an animal of choice to support. The San Diego Human Society's gift shop has lots of great treats for your furry friends too...

Kima supported Boxers Roxy at The San Diego Humane Society, and Cowboy last year. This year, Kima supported the San Diego Humane Society again this year.

Think Green for shopping

Supporting local, supports local jobs and it's greener in the end...less transportation costs and less emissions...

More Charitable Thoughts...

Give big and unclutter your life.... Salvation Army is great. They don't just resell, they train people and give them jobs and respect.

The Social Diary is very happy to support The Salvation Army!
