CCS Tea
by the Sea 2006
June 11th, 2006

The Center for Community
Solutions, aka CCS, held its 7th Annual 'Tea by the Sea' at
the Hilton Torrey Pines in La Jolla. And it was truly 'by the
sea' as the ballroom offered guests expansive views over the Pacific
Ocean.
It was a pretty setting April
18th as supporters collected together to enjoy an afternoon of
champagne, a proper tea, and words of wisdom from guest speaker
Deborah Santana. Deborah has had quite the life so far.
She survived an early relationship of domestic violence, and has
progressed from there to have a loving family and life with Carlos
Santana. She has written a book too. Space Between
the Stars: My Journey to an Open Heart.
As Deborah relates, she and
husband Carlos are involved in their Milagro Foundation, which
has thus far handed over $2 million to children and youth programs
in arts, health and education. Milagro coincidentally means miracle.
CCS too takes its wisdom,
and helps out others in need. With various domestic violence counseling,
rape assistance, court advocacy, shelters and children's programs,
CCS has taken the lead in San Diego for domestic violence prevention
and intervention.
The luncheon had strong support
too. Sponsors included The Home Depot, NORDSTROM, CUBIC,
COX Communications Kids Foundation, Croce's Restaurant and Bars,
ProFlowers, San Diego County Credit Union, Charriol, National
University, Trattoria Positano's Jewel and Leon Kelley, and Tabor
Communications.
Among the many honored this
day were Lydia Shoopman, Sandy Roberts, Marc Kuritz, Cox
Kids Foundation, Union Bank of California and Marites Hoyla.
Guests there included emcee
Kimberly Hunt, CCS Executive Director Verna Griffin-Tabor,
CCS Board President Anita Crandall, Dottie and Chuck Hansen of
Viejas, Georgia and Blair Sadler, Margo Schwab, David Santistevan
Senior Vice President of Colliers International, CCS Past President
of the Board Deborah Palmer, Jennifer Whitelaw, Dustin Slack,
Casey Gwinn of the Family Justice Center, Steve Allen and Co-Chairs,
Jewel Kelley and Liza Boyer.
