Concert at Ephesus, Kusadasi, Turkey by

Jacobowitz Visiting Turkey, which Paul (my husband) and I did in June, was fabulous. Being in Istanbul for several days was exotic and exciting, but the event that joined our lifetime-list of special events was the evening concert that Crystal Cruises arranged at Ephesus. When we arrived in Kusadasi, our first day was spent exploring Ephesus, the largest site of ruins in the world, where, unbelievably only ten percent of the ruins have been excavated to date. Imagine what it was like to return to that site in the early evening. The scene was set with dozens of small cocktail tables draped to the ground in white and white-covered chairs, tied with white organdy bows set up theatre style amidst the ruins of the Grand Theatre, the whole area eerily lighted from below. Imagine then what it was like to attend a exclusive concert by the Izmir String Quintet playing Vivaldi, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Dvorak and Brahms to name part of their repertoire. Although this extraordinary archaeological site is normally closed to the public in the evening, Crystal arranged a special opening for a private cocktail party and concert. Consider then, if you will, the delights of this ancient city and contemplate moments when leaders such as Cleopatra, Anthony, and Alexander the Great visited this site. pictured here - Ruth S.
