A New Generation of Animal Lovers

Featuring Amanda Lo and her furry friend at the

San Diego Humane Society

When asked if she would like to help promote adoptable dogs at the San Diego Humane Society, Amanda Lo did not hesitate to say 'yes.'

Enthusiastically too!

Amanda may be only 12 years old, but she is quite smart and focused. Amanda excels at reading, she tested at the 12th grade level. Her vocabulary tested at the 10th grade level.

Besides being an avid learner, Amanda feels a strong connection to animals, especially dogs.

In her own words Amanda describes that passion. "I think that it's great that we have organizations that care for them and protect them. When I was in Whistler, I met two ladies who told me that I would be a great candidate for working with trainers who train dogs for the blind. (They had watched me interacting with their dogs although I didn't know it). Afterwards, they told me that people who do this kind of work have a special connection with dogs. My mom said that she would look into it so that I could maybe start volunteering in places where these dogs are trained and utilized.  I would love to do this. I think that I would be good at it. I am most happy when I am around dogs."

"I think that I will probably utilize my language art skills to become a lawyer, although after watching my favorite medical drama show"HOUSE," Hugh Laurie, the main character in the show, has inspired me to consider pursuing the field of diagnostic medicine when I grow up. I think that this show is just fabulous!"

but back to animals...

"Everyone who knows me, knows that I just love animals. I often think that they are better than people. They are loyal and loving, which is why when I watch the show "Animal Cops" my heart breaks sometimes at the cruelty of some people towards innocent, wonderful animals. I think that animals must really like me because they truly respond to me. In one evening I trained our family friends' miniature poodle, "Sheeba"to do many adorable tricks. Everyone watching was intrigued at how well she was responding to my commands. If I don't become a doctor or a lawyer, (which is what I want)  I might become an actress. or at least, so say my parents, since they think that I am entertaining."

One thing is for sure, Amanda will be a great advocate for dogs, whatever field she chooses!
